OPEN
HOUSE
The
Open House members were Paul Kotapish, Mark Graham and Sandy
Silva. I had first met Paul when Micheal and I played in Corvallis
on our first trip to Oregon. Some years later Micheal and
I were about to set off on a tour of the US with Malcolm Dalglish
and Grey Larsen when Micheal was severely injured in a car
accident. Micheal was unable to travel because of his injuries
but it was too late to cancel the tour. Paul was contacted
and was kind enough to agree to be my accompanist for those
few weeks and ever since then we have played together fairly
regularly. p>Paul used to play in a great old-timey band called
the Hurricane Ridgerunners and one of his bandmates was Mark
Graham. Paul, Mark and I would often meet and play music together.
Soon we decided to form a group. Before making our group "official"
we asked another friend, Sandy Silva if she would be interested
in joining with us. She agreed so we now had a band! Paul
played guitar, mandolin and cittern, Mark did most of the
singing and played harmonica and clarinet, and Sandy was the
"drummer" of the band with her rhythmic and percussive dancing.
We played a mixture of traditional music drawn from various
cultures and Sandy added a great visual presence to the group's
concert performances.
Open House stayed together
for some years, made 3 recordings and finally disbanded in
Jan. 1999.
