On the Fly

A new Patrick Street CD
with Kevin Burke, Andy Irvine, Ged Foley and John Carty
featuring Jackie Daly

ON THE FLY is the new album from celebrated traditional Irish band PATRICK STREET, on Loftus Music. Now in their third decade, Patrick Street are considered "the Irish supergroup" with musical heritages dating straight back to The Bothy Band, Planxty and De Dannan. The new CD indicates the opening of an exciting new chapter for the group, as well as a change in one of its longest-running line-ups. Renowned accordion player and founding member Jackie Daly has decided to step down from the "Street," and leaves us with some dynamic playing on the album. Meanwhile, respected multi-instrumentalist and newest member John Carty makes his Patrick Street recording debut.

On the Fly is the band's eleventh release and perhaps the most profoundly traditional, with many of the tunes rooted in the rural music of County Sligo. Both John Carty and Kevin Burke spent their early years there, soaking up music that the wider world learned mainly from recordings. Now considered two of the finest fiddlers of their generations, they team up here for some thrilling sets of tunes. John's imaginative phrasing and Kevin's silky tone joyfully portray the rhythmic ebb and flow of the swift, rolling Sligo music on which they were raised.

Across the Black River

A new CD by Kevin Burke & Cal Scott
with special guests Johnny B. Connolly, Michael McGoldrick and Phil Baker

This recording is an exciting collaboration between Irish fiddler, Kevin Burke and guitarist/composer, Cal Scott. The two first met while working on a documentary about "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. Cal was commissioned to compose the score and he engaged Kevin as a consultant on the project. They enjoyed working together so much that when it was completed they continued to spend time together, playing, recording and exchanging musical ideas. Across the Black River is their first CD together.

In Tandem
Kevin Burke and Ged Foley

Since 1994, when they first met, Kevin and singer/instrumentalist Ged Foley have played a lot of music together but In Tandem is their first duo recording. It will come as no surprise to anyone who knows their music that this CD is a work of smooth, unhurried elegance.

With a minimum of studio effects, the sophistication of the production skills and musical craftsmanship is very much in evidence as is to be expected from two musicians who for many years have been playing music at the highest level of the genre.

In Tandem presents the listener with both the intimacy and immediacy of a deeply personal, almost private, performance.

Track Samples:

1. - The Long Acre / Cuz Teahan's
2.- Across the Black River/Paidin O'Rafferrty
3. -The Proud Man
